Title
Infrared band extinctions and complex refractive indices of crystalline $C_2H_2$ and $C_4H_2$
Abstract
Infrared absorption intensities of thin films of crystalline $C_2H_2$ and $C_4H_2$ at 70K are reported for the characteristic features of these materials in the thermal infrared region (2-50 μm). In order to determine the complex refractive indices (n and k) the reflection at the interfaces and the true absorption by the film deposited on a nonabsorbing substrate are separated by analyzing the ratio of transmission spectra for two sample thicknesses. This results in a significant simplification of the iteration process required to obtain n and k by the Kramers-Kronig analysis of the extinction data. The laboratory-determined values of n and k reproduce the observed transmission for a given sample thickness to within $\pm5%$ in most cases.
