Title
Far infrared (500-30 cm-1) spectra of some carbonate minerals
Abstract
Several well resolved major and minor bands are present in the far infrared spectra (500-30 cm−1) of the isomorphous members of the calcite and aragonite groups. The major absorption bands are probably diagnostic of the minerals. Shifts in frequency of certain lattice mode vibrations may be related to mass and radius differences of the cationic component of the carbonates although effects attributable to cation substitution are not unambiguously demonstrated.
