This foam-like sublimation residue consists of "ribbons" of smectite layers, which have clearly retained the spherical shapes of the initial water ice particles. This structure may have formed initially during the freezing of the droplets of the smectite suspension in liquid nitrogen and/or during the sublimation of the ice. The ribbons are 1 to 2 µm thick
