Comments
PE and KBr pellets of the samples. For the MIR domain (2–40 μm), ∼0.5–1.0 mg of sample were mixed with 300 mg of KBr. For the FIR domain (40 - 1000 µm), because the MAC of the samples decreases at long wavelengths, several pellets with an increasing mass of samples were used. Typically, pellets containing 5, 20, 40, 80 and 170 mg of samples and 300 mg of PE were retained. The pellets have different thickness depending on the amount of material and PE or KBr.
Formation mode
pressing granular material
Comments
To make the pellets, the mixture of the sample and the HDPE was heated to 130°C and then pressed under 10 tons for 5 min to form a 13 mm pellet. The KBr pellets are pressed under 10 tons for 5 min at room temperature.
